PC lens and acrylic---International Biopolyester Conference discusses the development of harmless plastics

by:Eugenia     2022-01-10
The International Biopolyester Conference (ISBP) is held once every two years. This conference (ISBP2018) is hosted by Tsinghua University. Chen Guoqiang is the chairman of the conference. At the conference on October 21, Ann-Christine Albertsson, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering, and other experts The development of degradable biopolyester materials has launched academic discussions to help biopolyester materials move towards industrial production. The inability to degrade plastics has brought many problems. Therefore, scientists all over the world are trying to create a substance that has excellent polymer properties like plastics and can be easily degraded and is non-toxic and harmless. The harmless 'plastic' of 'biopolyester' offers this possibility. It is understood that common biopolyester materials include polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), polylactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBAT) and so on. PHA material can be degraded under natural conditions and is non-toxic and harmless to human body and the environment. Due to its diverse monomer types, polymerization methods and polymer chain lengths vary greatly, materials with different material properties can be manufactured, such as common packaging materials and agricultural films. In addition, the market prospects of PHA in medicine, cosmetics, animal feed, etc. are also very broad. In recent years, the basic research and industrialization of new biopolyester materials represented by PHA have progressed rapidly. 'The biggest obstacle hindering the further industrialization and scale-up of biopolyester materials is cost. If the technical cost is reduced, everyone is definitely willing to use this material. We are also constantly looking for ways to reduce costs to promote PHA.' Chen Guoqiang told 'China Science Daily' reporter. In December last year, the 'Next Generation Industrial Biotechnology' pioneered by Chen Guoqiang has completed the pilot test of the industrial production of PHA, realizing the mass production capacity of low-cost PHA without sterilization and open continuous fermentation. It can be seen that in the future, biopolyester materials may replace traditional non-degradable plastics and enter millions of households. pc lens and acrylic
